Using Banckle Email Server to create and send Video & Audio Emails
- Posted by Ali Maqbool on November 25th, 2010
We’ve all witnessed moments in our work and personal lives when we just wanted to send a quick shout out, perhaps even a video to someone instead of typing out a tedious email that takes a considerable chunk of time. I’ve personally faced this many times, when I think a text message or short email just can’t and won’t cut it, and if only I could send out a short video or audio clip to the recipient my day would be so much better. Well in comes the new Bankle Email Server Video and Audio Mail feature.
The model is simple; anyone with a webcam and microphone can quickly and easily create & send video/audio messages, that too for free! You won’t need to record videos with expensive equipment, and you don’t have to download software. Best of all no expertise is required. If you can create and send text email – you can send a video email through Banckle Email Server.
I'm personally so accustomed to using this feature that basically all the typing I do when sending emails – is the email subject.
Addressing all users that want to personalize their email messages just a little more, or that want to get more across in less time – with the added benefit of no more tone miscommunication (when your boss or dad-in-law just doesn’t get the joke). Banckle Email Server now allows you to capture Video and Audio messages of up to 1 minute duration, which are then automatically attached to your email message as .FLV file attachments. What’s more is that you can record multiple video/audio within a single email. All this, directly from the Banckle Email Server user interface!
How it works?
Most people believe that sending video emails means recording very large files with a camcorder or a webcam, and trying to attach it to an email. It usually doesn’t work due to email file attachment size limits. The Banckle Email Server offers a simple and effective workflow that allows you to send Video Emails, with basic equipment (a web-cam and PC microphone). Most laptops and contemporary mobile devices have these built in.
The simple and minimalistic layout for the Banckle Email Server app is definitely proving to be a success! To add to the kudos that we are recieving from users world-wide, we have added a video email feature on the message composition form. The following procedure serves as a quick walkthrough for the process.
1. When composing an email message, select the Video Mail check-box.
A Video/Audio Email panel expands to the right hand side of the message body field.

2. Select the type of message you wish to record. (To illustrate the use in this example, I shall record an Audio message.)
An Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog appears, requesting your permission to allow Banckle Email Server to use your Webcam and Microphone.

Selecting Message Type when creating a Video/Audio Email.
3. Click Allow.
The recording session commences. You can now record your Video/Audio Email message.

See, that was pretty easy! CONVEY MORE, IN THE SAME TIME! or – do more in less! Communication just became easier.
The difference it makes?
Let me illustrate this with a quantified (if communication ever can be measured) example. I think that a words-per-minute rate would serve as a good measure for communication rate. "Professional typists type at speeds of around 80 words a minute, and the average user tops out at about 40. This is with a PC/Laptop keyboard; with mobile devices I would assume that speeds would be slower. People are known to speak and comprehend with 99% retention at vocalized speeds of 160 words a minute"1. That’s FOUR times the communication in the same time frame. Add to that the convenience and personalization of video, and recall the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
